1. 프로그램 소개
기초과학연구원(IBS)은 우리나라 기초과학의 발전을 위해 기초과학 연구로 ‘인류 행복과 사회 발전에 공헌 (Making Discoveries for Humanity and Society)’이라는 비전을 바탕으로 2011년 설립되었습니다. 현재까지 세계적으로 저명한 학자들을 중심으로 26개의 연구단이 출범하여 다양한 분야에서 우수한 연구 성과를 창출하고 있습니다.
올해 IBS는 기초과학분야 젊은 과학자 육성의 일환으로 ‘Young Scientist Fellowship (YSF)’을 시작합니다. YSF 수여자는 IBS의 최첨단 연구 인프라를 활용하여 독립적인 연구를 수행하는 한편, IBS 내 다른 우수한 연구자들과의 연구협력을 바탕으로 더욱 성장해 나갈 수 있는 기회를 얻게 될 것입니다.
본 YSF 프로그램이 잠재력 있는 연구 인력들이 향후 세계 유수 연구기관의 핵심 연구 인력으로 발전하는 데 있어 소중한 디딤돌의 역할을 할 수 있기를 희망하며, 많은 분들의 관심과 지원을 부탁드립니다.

2. 지원자격
● 박사학위 취득 후 5년 이내 또는 만 40세 미만의 박사학위 취득자

3. 운영형태
● 연평균 1.5~3억 원 지원
● 최초 3년 간 임용되며 2년 연장 가능
● IBS 연구단에 소속되어 연구단 장비 및 연구시설을 활용하여 독립적 연구 수행
● IBS Career Development Award (CDA)* 신청 가능
* YSF 종료 후 자리 잡는 기관에서 활용할 수 있는 연구비 지원

4. 선정절차(2단계)
● (1단계) 3페이지 이내의 간략한 지원의향서 (Letter of intent) 제출 및 심사

2. 선정평가위원회의 후보자별 지원서 심사
3. 연구계획서 (full proposals) 제출 초청 및 안내: ∼2016년 8월 31일

2. 선정평가위원회의 후보자별 연구계획서 심사
3. 면접 및 발표평가 대상자 발표: ∼2016년 10월 31일
4. 현장 면접 및 발표평가 진행: ∼2016년 11월 30일
5. 최종 YSF 연구위원 선정 및 안내: ∼2016년 12월 31일

IBS Young Scientist Fellowship (YSF)

1. Purpose and Background

With the vision of “Making Discoveries for Humanity and Society,” the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) was founded in 2011 the Korean government to promote basic sciences in Korea. Twenty-six IBS Research Centers have been launched and each Center is operated internationally renowned scientists.

This year, the IBS introduces a new program called “Young Scientist Fellowship (YSF)” to play an active role in fostering next-generation basic science leaders. The YSF offers opportunities for young, promising scientists to do their own basic research work in one of the IBS Research Centers while sharing ideas and utilizing our state-of-art infrastructures. We encourage challenging and high-risk basic research within the special nature of each RC.

We hope that the YSF program functions as a stepping stone for our research fellows to be appointed as independent principal investigators at the prestige institutions worldwide.

1. Eligibility

• Within 5 years of obtaining a PhD or under the age of 40 with a PhD

1. Benefit and Condition
   • The YSF provides KRW 150-300 million per year
   • YSF fellows will be appointed for 3 years with possible extension of 2 years
   • YSF fellows should be physically relocated to one of the IBS Centers
   • YSF fellows are eligible to apply for the IBS Career Development Award (CDA)^*
     * A research fund that can be used in the newly appointed affiliation after completing YSF
