Scientists and Engineers Early-Career Development (SEED) Workshop
KSEA is pleased to announce the Scientists and Engineers Early-Career Development (SEED) Workshop, which has had great success since its inception in 2013. The information on the event dates, venue and hotel is shown below.
Event Title: SEED 2016
Date: December 17-18, 2016 (Sat-Sun)
Venue: KSEA Headquarters, 1952 Gallows Rd, Vienna, VA 22182
The goal of SEED is to provide a professional career development service which is consistent, systematic, and practically useful for junior Korean-American scientists and engineers ranging from postdoctoral researchers to early career professionals.
Current graduate students are only eligible for those whose defense is SCHEDULED before June 30, 2017.
The program will provide:
(1) a workshop on grant proposal writing for postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty members,
(2) information on funding opportunities within the US, US-Korea collaboration, and other international opportunities,
(3) a career workshop that focuses on the job application process, tenure, and promotion, and
(4) the development of supporting and mentoring systems.
Speakers will be outstanding and distinguished scholars and professionals with successful careers in the United States and members of Korean Academy of Science and Technology.
Attendees are required to have current KSEA membership and participate in the entire two-day workshop period. KSEA will provide the following financial supports to the attendees:
(1) Travel support: Airfare up to $200 or driving mileage ($0.50/mile) up to $200.
(2) Hotel accommodation: One night (Saturday, Dec. 17) at Tysons Corner Marriott (8028 Leesburg Pike, Tysons Corner, VA 22182) shared two participants.
(3) Meals: Lunch and dinner on Saturday, Dec. 17, and breakfast at Hotel on Sunday, Dec. 18.
Application materials: Personal information, CV, and a recent photo.
Application deadline: October 25, 2016 (Tue)
Announcement of accepted participants: October 31, 2016 (Mon)
Selection criteria: Competitive merit based, up to 70 applicants. Priority will be given to applicants from academic fields since a separate conference is tentatively scheduled in the West Coast in spring 2017 for early career professionals in industry.
Registration fee: $80 for graduate students; $150 for postdocs; $250 for junior faculty, government employees, or early stage professionals.
