Congratulatory Message from the KSEA President

Youngsoo Richard Kim

Honorable Guests, Ladies, and Gentlemen: Welcome to New Jersey! It is wonderful that so many fellow KSEA members, friends, and guests from the Northeastern states can come and participate in the KSEA’s Northeast Regional Conference. The NRC has provided an exceptional opportunity for researchers and practitioners in a number of exciting fields to gather and share their knowledge and experience. Although I am unable to attend the Conference due to personal conflicts, I am sure that this year’s event will continue the tradition of strong technical content and networking opportunities that the NRC has always provided for its attendees.

This Conference is the first time that KSEA’s local chapters in the Northeastern states can join with Affiliated Professional Societies, such as the NYKB, KASBP, KWiSE, KITEE, and PKSA, under the theme, “Moving Forward Another Quarter Century, TOGETHER”. This type of collaboration is a great example of how two main axes of KSEA, i.e., the local chapters and Affiliated Professional Societies, can work together to create networking opportunities both socially and technically. I wholeheartedly applaud this effort!

Serving and leading the KSEA as President allows me to return some of the benefits I have gained from this dynamic organization, but at the same time this opportunity poses many challenges. I am pleased to report to you the following important initiatives that have been accomplished by the 44th Administration:

  • Proper representation of local chapter presidents in the Council by developing and including the concept of ‘Region’ in the KSEA structure
  • Registration of local chapters as non-profit organizations
  • Integration of the Technical Groups and Affiliated Professional Societies
  • Revamping the KSEA information technology system and the encryption of members’ passwords
  • Improving the membership application and renewal processes
  • Improving the security of the election system

Each of these tasks is important for the healthy and prosperous future of the KSEA. You have experienced some of these changes already, and I ask for your willingness to continue your active support of KSEA as we move forward with progressive changes to improve our organization even more in the future.

Congratulations to the Conference Co-Chairs, Drs. Youngsun Kim, Sae Woong Park, and Moses Noh, the Conference organizers, advisors, presenters, volunteers, and generous sponsors for making this Conference another successful event!

Youngsoo Richard Kim

President, KSEA

Welcome to 25th Northeast Regional Conference (NRC)

Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) NJ, NY-Metro and Philadelphia will hold the 25th KSEA Northeast Regional Conference (NRC 2016) at Crowne Plaza Englewood, NJ, on April 30, 2016. For the first time, the 25th NRC is collaborated with professional organizations including KASBP, NYKB, KWiSE, KITEE and PKSA. The objective of this conference is to provide a forum in which scientists and engineers in major areas present their research findings and share ideas.  We are hoping that the 25th KSEA Northeast Regional Conference (NRC 2016) will also contribute greatly to the advancement of research and development in both USA and Korea.  In addition, we believe it will provide an opportunity for members and experts in other technical fields to establish professional networks, as well as to explore career opportunities.

The 25th KSEA Northeast Regional Conference would like to extend an invitation to you to this wonderful forum.  We are looking forward to seeing you all at the 25th KSEA Northeast Regional Conference.

Dear Fellow KSEA members,

Dear Fellow KSEA members,

KSEA is collaborating with Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) to conduct an extensive technology demand survey from all KSEA members.

The results from this survey will serve as a basis for the Request for Proposal (RFP) next fiscal year and may lead to initiate joint R&D projects between Korea and US researchers. Thus this project provides an excellent opportunity for KSEA members to collaborate with Korean colleagues with the support from the Korean funding agencies. We would greatly appreciate it if you can fill out the attached Survey Form either in Korean (preferred) or English with reference to the attached Technology Classification, and return it to Ms. Euna Yoon at KSEA HQ ( by May 6, 2016.

Survey requirements include:

(1) Survey Form either in Korean (Preferred) or English

(2) Submission window date: due by 5:00pm, May 6, 2016, proposer’s local time

(3) Limit on Number of Survey Forms per PI or Co-PI: Two (2)

(4) Who May Submit:

 (a) KSEA membership is NOT required.
(b) This survey is open to U.S. scientists and engineers only (U.S. scientists and engineers are those who are affiliated with a US institution) – Per KEIT request, however, those who are affiliated with a Korean institution in Korea and currently visiting the United States (e.g., as a visiting scholar) are NOT eligible for this survey. 미국 기관 소속된 연구자만 대상 – KEIT 요구에 의해 한국 기관 소속 연구자는 제외 (예, 한국에서 오신 visiting scholar분들은 참여 불가능)

Benefits include:

  • Participants will receive $50 per a reviewed and accepted survey as a token of appreciation.
  • Selected proposers will be invited to participate in a Forum at UKC 2016 to be hosted by the KEIT.
  • The local chapters or Affiliated Professional Societies (APS) that submit 10 or more accepted survey forms will receive an additional support of $300. A special, additional prize ($500) will be awarded for one local chapter and one APS with the most accepted surveys over 10. Please note that these awards are only valid for the first 100 accepted surveys so please take an action quickly.

We look forward to your active participation in this exciting opportunity to work with your R&D colleagues in Korea. Please feel free to share this opportunity with your colleagues who might be interested in participation. Please direct any inquiries to Ms. Euna Yoon at KSEA HQ (
